Drywood Termite swarming season is coming. A hot summer day signals the colony to swarm. If you see termites swarm, call for a free inspection to determine if they are infesting your home. Click Here to go to our inspection order page or call 1-800-548-5599

The introduction of TERMIDOR (fipronil) has proven to be the fastest and most effective treatment method in the industry. We offer a full 5 YEAR No Excuses GUARANTEE with our PERIMETER PLUS Subterranean Termite control treatments. When you choose Key Termite and Pest Control to eliminate your termite problem, you don't get a guarantee full of loopholes. If the subterranean termite infestation returns within 5 years of the treatment date, well return and completely re-treat the soil as described in the original report. Since our switch to Termidor in 2000, and with hundreds of Perimeter Plus treatments we have now performed, we have not had a single failure to control a subterranean termite infestation.

THE TERMIDOR REVOLUTION: The success of this product has been nothing short of revolutionary in the Termite Control Industry. Termite companies are either using it, or will be. Many companies who initially jumped on tha baiting bandwagon are now offering a Termidor treatment option. In initial Experimental Use Permit test sites, there was colony control in 100% of the over 200 test cases. No other registered Termite Control product had ever performed as well. The combination of a 2 to 4 day delayed mortality and extremely effective chemistry at low dosages allows the social contact of the termites to distribute chemical particles throughout the entire colony system. Colony activity is eliminated within 3 weeks in most cases. Mammal toxicity is low as Fipronil binds 100 times more tightly to insects nervous system receptors versus mammals. Typical application rates are low at .06% versus .5% to 1% solutions used in Barrier treatments.
BARRIER TREATMENTS: Original Subterranean Termite control methods were based on the idea that a Barrier of treated soil in areas of common or known entry points would prevent the termites from making their way into your home. Termites could not pass through areas of treated soil without dying. The termite colony was not affected and would focus on other available wood in the soil. Original materials like Chlordane offered many years of protection because of the long lasting nature of this Chlorinated Hydrocarbon material. However, being in the same class of chemistry as D.D.T., Chlordane was eventually removed from the market. Each step to replace Chlordane met with safer, and shorter lived, materials that offered less effective protection for a much shorter period of time. Current materials available, if applied to every conceivable entry point, will offer 1 to 2 years protection at best and only in specific areas of soil treated. The current offering of Synthetic Pyrethroids are not only short lived, but are repellent. Termites coming in contact with treated soil are repelled and avoid contact. They will continue to forage through the soil until they find unprotected areas or gaps in the barrier. PLUSES: Possible lower price. MINUSES: Short lived protection; Many barriers are performed as Spot treatments, leaving the remainder of the structure unprotected.
TERMITE BAIT STATIONS: In the 1990's some very encouraging research began to emerge as materials and methods were developed to take advantage of the social behavior of the termites. Termites are similar to Ants and Bees in that the have a Social structure. A Queen, Soldiers and Workers of a social colony of insects are all working together for the survival of the colony. The idea of a treated food supply, or Bait, would allow termites which have contacted the bait material to affect other individuals within the colony through social contact. Baiting requires that the termite colony be Recruited to a feeding location, and then supplied with an adequate amount of bait material to affect the colony. If performed carefully, colony control can be achieved between 1 and 3 years. Research showed that it took between 1 and 3 years for the colony to locate the bait stations. Also, if the baiting switch disturbed the feeding activity, the colony would abandon feeding. PLUSES: Chemical safety; Colony elimination possible. MINUSES: Expensive; Regular inspection and careful maintenance required; 1 to 3 years to gain control.
